I don’t want to just expose what is happening. I think it’s obvious that loose fruit and vegetables outside of packaging is more expensive. I want it to be illegal. I want there to be a policy in the supermarket, a bit like the scanning policy where if something scans higher than the advertised or marked price, you get it for free. With fruit and vegetables, we should be able to get loose fruit and vegetables for free if they are not cheaper than packaged produce. Not just one piece of fruit but same weight. So if single carrots are more expensive than a 500g pack, then give customer 500g loose carrots for free. If no loose carrots are available, give them choice of a pack or a credit. That might stop them overcharging for loose items that aren’t in plastic.
